Snack Ideas For Traveling On The Road

Every time the holidays come around, chances are travel plans come into fruition. In the air, sea or on the road, healthy snack ideas come in handy for the traveler. Preparation can make all the difference when it comes to snack ideas, since a nutritious snack while traveling can be hard to come by. Here are a couple of sugar-free snack ideas that are effortless to prepare but make your trip a whole lot more enjoyable.

Ingredients:

1 large bunch of seedless grapes (red or green)

Instructions:

Rinse grapes thoroughly and dry afterward using a paper towel. Have a baking sheet ready lined with paper towels. Arrange the grapes on the paper towels. Space them equally apart. Place in a freezer to freeze.  When you travel, if you have the benefit of an igloo type of container, place the frozen grapes in them so they last longer. Eat frozen. A word of caution: avoid giving to kids below 3 years old as these may cause choking.

Merry Raspberry Treat As Snack Ideas

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raspberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup carrots
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 5 tbsp of unflavored gelatin
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • One tablespoon of water

Instructions For These Snack Ideas:

Heat the raspberries using a saucepan on medium heat until they liquefy. Strain the juice to get rid of the seeds, pressing the raspberries through the strainer.  Once done, return the raspberries to the saucepan. Dice the carrots into fine bits and microwave using a bowl with one tablespoon of water. Do this for 2 minutes until carrots become soft then add to the raspberries in the saucepan. Add maple syrup, lemon juice and gelatin and heat on medium-low temperature. Stir to the point that the gelatin is completely dissolved. Take from the heat and place in a blender. Blend, so the mixture is a smooth consistency.  Place the mixture into a 9”x 9” pan, with no greasing required. Put in a refrigerator to chill for around 4 hours. When done, take out of the pan and cut into small cubes and then place in an airtight container. Keep refrigerated until ready to eat.

Ingredients:

  • Fruits of your choice
  • Chocolate
  • Sprinkles/Cocoa Powder

Method:

Cut the fruit of your choice into medium slices. Please choose hard fruits like apples or pears. Skewer them with sticks and put them aside. Slice the chocolate into small pieces and collect them in a small pan or a bowl. Take another bigger saucepan, fill it with water and put it on the oven. Just when the water becomes slightly warm, place the bowl of chocolates on it. You will see that the chocolates starts melting slowly. Add one tablespoon vanilla extract to it and stir the mixture until it is completely liquefied. Now take the skewered fruits and dip them completely in the liquid chocolate. Sprinkle some cocoa powder or any other sprinkles of your choice and refrigerate for 2-3 hours. You now have the healthy nutrients of fruits wrapped in tasty chocolate and your kids won’t even resist! Also, they can be carried easily and would make tasty snacks on a road trip.
